Sting 2011, Big Hit, Few Surprises

Kiprich vs Merciless

Reggae super show Sting 2011, dubbed Rumours of War was a big hit but to many a big disappointment also. Let’s start out with the disappointment first. Many big name artists were not present for the show. There were names like Beenie Man, Movado, Elephant Man bandied about but for some reason they were ‘no shows.’

There were numerous new artistes some were able to do only half a song due to the fact that the show started late. Some have great potentials but others may have to work harder on their performances.

On the positive sides the clashes were good and there were a few surprises. For example, who would have thought that Twins of Twins would have run out of Lyrics against Tony Matterhorn? Matterhorn is a sound clasher but held his own when he demolished Twins of Twins and rendered them useless.

Another surprise was when Kiprich demolished Merciless. It was pitiful to watch. The ionic clasher Merciless seemed to have been lost. He came out dressed as a grandfather with walking stick. I don’t know if that was for real or he was just obliging Kiprich who describes as a grand daddy. Whatever happens Merciless should change his name to Merciful. He needs some mercy.

The comedy of the night belongs to artist Iyara. He clashed with Deva Brat and brought a female on stage with what supposed to have been a very young baby. When Iyara put the mike at the ‘baby’ mouth, the baby’s voice said ‘Deva Brat touched me’ or something like that. The crowd went wild.

Bounty killer closed the show but many were expecting that Beenie Man was going to clash with Bounty but that did not happen. Bounty seemed more like he was clashing with himself. Other artiste like Popcaan shine as expected but the night belongs to Vybz Kartel who is in jail but his name was called and songs played so often is like he was there.
